I'd Love to Give this Watch a Good Review But . . .

I am now on my third of this exact model watch. I had first purchased this watch after trying watches from other sources that were either too delicate for every day, outdoor usage, or too big for my tastes. The first watch worked great for 2-3 years, until I smashed the face on a rock - completely my fault. The second stopped working in about 9 or so months; it started to lose roughly 5 minutes every hour, and no replacement battery would change that (I tried multiple brands). Believing that I just had a faulty watch, I purchased the third one. In about 9 or so months, it too started to lose roughly 5 minutes for every hour. I have just tried my third brand of replacement battery with no improvement. All products occaisionally go bad, but not likely two going bad in the same way at roughly the same timeframe unless there is a design or manufacturing fault.Otherwise, I'd love to give this watch a good rating. Tardy for school, again??!!

Like another (the only other) reviewer, I too had a problem with the watch losing 5 minutes frequently. I suspected the battery, even though my watch was less than a month old. Then, I realized that the crown is defective. If you flex your wrist backward, which we all do on a regular basis, the crown can get pushed in past the "run" mode, stopping the watch. Looks like a design flaw with this model. Too bad, because it's a cool-looking watch. But hey, how accurate does a Swiss military watch have to be: the country stays neutral in every war. Unfortunately, my daughter's elementary school expects true military precision from students arriving every morning. 1/5 Bill R. - See all my reviews This review is from: Wenger Swiss Military Men's 72901 Classic Field White Dial Canvas Leather Military Watch (Watch) Like another (the only other) reviewer, I too had a problem with the watch losing 5 minutes frequently. More useful then you may imagine

The Victorinox Swiss Champ Plus is a very well designed multi-tool. The more you carry it, the more it will endear itself to you by proving it's worth in the field as well as in the workplace or at home. At first glance some of the tools may seem superfluous, but in the long run you may very well use some of these tools even though you originally never imagined yourself being in a position that requires them. Fit and finish are first rate, as is always the case with Victorinox products. It amazes me that Victorinox is able to offer this tool at such a fantastic price while still manufacturing in Switzerland. This tool is basically the same as the Victorinox Swiss Champ, minus the pliers. Losing the pliers gives you a tool with a considerably smaller profile which is therefore more pocketable, and as such I consider this more of a trade-off then a negative. If you plan to carry in a toolbox or glove compartment, you might very well choose the regular 'Victorinox Champ',... 5/5 Jose Sanchez (Miami, FL) - See all my reviews, December 27, 2007

Great for the botanist/biologist as well as the handyperson

I like this particular Swiss army knife because it has a bit more than the standard knife. As a botanist and biology teacher, the hand lens has been used many a time to examine detail on a moss or beetle. The saw is great for camping, as well as collecting specimens. Additionally, you have all the basic handy gadgets you need on a knife: screwdrivers, scissors, nail file, tweezers, etc, as well as your basic, essential knife blade. I've had one of these for over 25 years, and have used it on five continents and for a hundred picnics. My only complaint is that as a lefty, food/muck can get lodged in the grooves of the handle when you use the blade (e.g. cheese, bread crumbs, etc). I use the toothpick to clean it up, but a hassle nonetheless. 5/5 Jane Healy "repto" (Blue Island, IL USA) - See all my reviews, December 7, 2005

Beautiful watch, but not at all durable

This watch broke just outside of the return window. I'd had is a little over two months. I think it's a gorgeous looking timepiece, but it's not at all resilient. It can't handle normal day-to-day wear, it seems. I bought it because I work in an art museum and there's no clocks in the galleries. I wanted something that would look "artsy" with a little sophistication. This looked right, but its performance is all wrong. 2/5 K. I thought this watch would overwhelm my small (5.5-inch) wrist, but it's perfect. Contrary to the measurement shown in one of the photos, the diameter of the watch is less than 3.5 cm. Really Very Clever, Well Made Tool - Recommended

The "Swiss Tech Micro-Max" is a very cool multi-tool, with good pliers, a solid Phillips head and flat screwdrivers (3 of each), a "hand drill", and wire cutters. It technically has other tools, but they are mostly "filler" (i.e. ruler marks?). That being said, the real tools are well worth the cost of this well made and compact tool. The folding design also allows this to be carried in pants pockets or in a computer case, which is very convenient.Highly recommended. 4/5 C. F. Pocket tool kit

There are times to carry a leatherman tool on your belt, and there are times when you shouldn't. Those are the times when this light, well-made tool can be extremely helpful. I've used it to tighten glasses, make holes in a belt, undo and tighten screws and nuts, and open bottles of beer. On that last, if you can't solve the puzzle of where the opener is, you've had too many. 4/5 Arnold F. Golana Men's Swiss Aero Pro 300 An Excellent Choice

I received this watch last week and have worn it a few times since then. I am not usually a fan of big watches, but the Golana Aero Pro looks amazing. The Golana box is one of the nicer boxes I have in my collection. I think it makes a wonderful presentation of the watch. The numbers on the watch face are very easy to read especially the quarter markers as they are in a larger type face. The lume on the hands is bright and lasts for quite a bit. However, the lume on the number markers is quite dull and I took away a star for that. The construction is very solid and the watch has a nice feel to it. All-in-all an excellent watch for the price, and being that Amazon is an authorized dealer the warranty is covered by the manufacturer. 4/5 V. Kivenson (Boston Ma) - See all my reviews, January 10, 2010

    Handsome watch, great value

I received this watch yesterday. The Golana box was nice and the watch arrived in pristine condition. This is one of the more handsome and legible watches of its type that I've found. The numbers and hands are read easily at a glance and the date is large enough without dominating the face of the watch. After removing a couple links in the bracelet, I found it very comfortable to wear, with a nice heft to the watch and bracelet. The 42mm size is just right for me -- stands out nicely without looking cartoonish on my wrist.Lume was good when I took it into a dark room but I haven't tested its longevity yet. This watch has a hacking seconds hand which I love, for setting the time accurately. I love having the dual time zone but this also brings up the only real negative about the watch for me -- the 2nd-time-zone hand is set with the crown out one stop (one direction for date, the other direction for dual time zone), but it also moves with the hour/minute hands when the... 4/5 Philip J. Best watch I've ever owned!

I received this watch as a gift in 2007 and have been wearing it almost everyday since. It has followed me to over 13 countries to include an active war zone and it still runs as good as the day I got it. I love watches and have owned more than a few, they all break or die some how except this one, sure the battery died and the band was wearing but with about $30 I got a new battery and a new band so now the watch is like new. Good Watch No Regrets

I bought this watch because I did exstensive research on the brand "Wenger" online and got good results. The only minor problems I have with my watch is that it's 10 seconds ahead and the numbers don't really aluminate as much as the hands but that's nothing. It's nice and simple watch, no thick booklet manual like other watches. The crystal is nice and durable, I wear this watch at my job and no scratches yet. I Would Feel Unprepared For My Day Without It!

For many years now, I have carried one of these small Swiss Army knives on each of my two key rings - one for work and one for home. Barely a day goes by when I do not take one of them out of my pocket to use once or twice - to quickly file down a broken nail, to tweeze out a small splinter, to cut open a small item with the scissor of something larger by cutting the wrapping tape with the knife blade - the toothpick is used daily! I cannot imagine being without one. Of course, I own larger and more multi-purpose knives, but when it comes to carrying something this handy on a key chain or ring, you just can't beat them! There are two major (authorized) manufacturers of Swiss Army knives: Victorinox, the maker of this particular favorite of mine and Wenger, a reliable alternative brand that makes many similar and some even nearly identical models. I have used both over the years and have found there to be absolutely no appreciable differences in the quality, durability or... 5/5 D. Classic Indeed

After 14 years of service my Victorinox mini-Swiss Army Knife (SAK) has finally begun to show its age: the toothpick went missing, the enamel casing cracked, the insignia fell off. So I've bought another (the original sits in a drawer, its knife blade as sharp as ever, the screwdriver still perfectly utile, the scissors are gummed up but could probably be cleaned out with some rubbing alcohol). For versatility and simplicity it's hard to beat this item. Sure there are SAKs with more blades and tools, but the simple knife/screwdriver/scissors combination is going to meet the vast majority of your needs (ok, it doesn't have a bottle opener: use a door strike plate, MacGyver). The toothpick is so-so, but I can't count the number of times I've needed to tweeze something and used the SAK tweezers when I couldn't find the bathroom set. The key fob, while not the most exciting of features, does provide a convenient way to carry the SAK around with you. This item is sure to please. I love... 5/5 C. T. The classic still a sentimental and useful favorite

I have been a collector of pocket knives since I was a kid and I'm always doing something around the house, needing to file a nail, tweeze a splinter, cut off some twine or open a letter. I bought one of these years and years ago in the train station at Zurich with my leftover change and I have it to this day...The knife takes a bit of sharpening--the type of steel used is resistant to rust and holds its shine, but it also makes it a bit more difficult to hold an edge. Nonetheless, with a good sharpening stone and some care, you can make a fine edge useful for opening letters, cutting twine or cutting open a box. This version contains six tools, including the knife blade, scissors, nail file with screwdriver on the end, plastic toothpick, tweezers and lanyard/key ring attachment. If you attach a string to the ring, you can use the pocketknife as a makeshift plumb bob. This is a small knife, just 2-1/4 inches long, so it fits flat in a pocket or purse. I personally like to... 5/5 Joanna Daneman (Middletown, DE USA) - See all my reviews, July 26, 2002

    High Quality, A Bit Pricey

This watch is branded after the famous 'Swiss Raid Commando' military competition held annually in Switzerland and France since 1986 of which Wenger is a sponsor. The watch features the SRC logo on the obverse in color along with the French language motto "Vouloir, Croire et Oser", which translates in English to "Want, Believe and Dare". The stainless steel case is coated in black via Physical Vapor Deposition, or PVD which bonds to the steel on a molecular level, meaning no chipping or flaking and high resistance to scratching (as are the crown and two activators). The mineral crystal is slightly domed and without flaws. The screw back is... Read more Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , December 28, 2009

Great military style with Swiss quartz accuracy

I have owned a few watches but this one keeps drawing me to wear it. The bright "nuclear" style green dial is very cool, and the lumination is good in the dark with only a short exposure to light.Pros:- Attractive, clean dial and face. Easy to read fonts, hands and dials.- Intuitive and accurate chrono operation, like a standard stopwatch.- PVD black coating is durable, and semi-matte finish.- Very avant garde style, especially in the business world. I get compliments on it all the time. Military-types love it.- Interesting heritage and tribute model. The symbol on the case back is a nice touch for collectors.- Date display without too much additional information like day of week or month.- Easy to set and maintain. Crown increments are easy to hit for setting.Cons:- Price. As others have indicated, this is a *bit* much for a quartz movement, mineral crystal and non-screw crown. If you can find one for a good... 4/5 Zack (Arlington, VA) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Great watch for the money

This watch is all about quality at a reasonable price. There is a number of specific details about this model that might be good to know in advance:1) The longest hand is a timer hand that indicates seconds; the bottom and the left dial are for the timer as well (indicating hours and minutes respectively).2) The watch shows date, but does not indicate month or day of week. However, in most cases, having your watch show you months, days of week, moon fazes, altitudes, bearings and stock tickers is excessive, IMHO anyway.3) The watch band is not made of rubber - it is actually made of some rather heavy-duty flat-black silicone with anti-slip texture on the inside. This is perfect for the supposedly military application of the watch. Silicone is easy to clean, it lasts longer than any leather (real or otherwise), and it feels much more comfy and soft than any kind of braided nylon.4) Date can be changed separately from time by pulling out the crown one more... 5/5 Teapot Tales (Brooklyn, NY U.S.A.) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Victorinox

The knife for the serious tech worker.

For the busy technology professional, a good knife can be the single most used tool. The Victorinox Tinker is pretty close to perfect. It has the critical core screwdrivers -- flathead and Phillips -- as well as simple punch, pick, and tweezers. It is NOT a huge pocket-tearing monster. The biggest problem is not leaving this miniature workshop behind! 5/5 Mac Clark "Clark" (Baltimore, MD USA) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) The Tinker is almost perfect for daily use

My first Tinker model was a black one-- brought to me from Switzerland in the 80s. I used it for years before finding a red version in the US-- at a Surplus store. I have other models, but the Tinker is the only one I carry on a daily basis. I use it, every single day. It has no attachments that I don't need (scissors, corkscrews etc are nice, but I don't *need* them) and its small enough that I don't feel like I have a brick in my pocket. Tweezers are great for picking up tiny lost objects or splinter removal, and the leather punch is a great awl. The only difference between my Swiss version and the "American" (both Victorinox) is that the Swiss one has a Philips head driver with a horizontal "slot" gap in the tip. That allows it to pinch into a smaller head, while the non slotted one is a fixed size for only larger screw heads. I when I found I could get the Tinker in the US so easily, I put the original in my locked box so I don't lose it. Its a super knife, and I am the hero at... 4/5 Meddows (Reality, USA) - See all my reviews This review is from: Victorinox Swiss Army Tinker and Classic Knife Combo (Sports) My first Tinker model was a black one-- brought to me from Switzerland in the 80s. Great knife for an unbelieveable price.

Great knife for a wonderful price. We are in the Civil Air Patrol and need such a knife for Emergency Services and it has everything but the kitchen sink. Quality is tops. Love it! We keep one in the glove compartment of the cars. 5/5 f22-Raptor "Jim" (Meno.
