Very Promising Show-seen all 12 episodes

Any show which casts Jessica Lange is right away doing something right. She becomes yet another of the very best film actors to make the transition to the small screen. Even better, she is not playing some goody two shoes in this ghost filled series. No, she lives next door to the Murder House in Los Angeles, in which an amazing amount of ghosts have taken up residence over the decades after a botched experience of trying to live in the house while still living. Charlotte (Lange) is tied to this house and all of the ghosts in it although we only discover this in layers and not even entirely in this first season. The first season involves yet another family taking up residence in the house, a husband, wife and teen daughter. The husband is a psychiatrist who practices from home. He is so clueless that he can't tell the difference if his new patient is a ghost or not! This was one of the more humorous aspects to the series. Charlotte becomes very involved in their lives... 4/5 carol irvin "carol irvin" (United States) - See all my reviews, December 22, 2011

    Brilliant, but awfully slow paced

I've watched five or six episodes of this show. It looks like it could be brilliant -- almost like a modern day Shining -- but it has an awfully slow pace.It is definitely disturbing, and I would not recommend letting children watch it. It is provocative and would probably give couples watching it something to talk about afterward. From a literary perspective, the show is fascinating. After all, it is a horror show that is set in America or is it story that is horrifying in terms of American cultural values? I'd say it is both. Many of themes directly attack the things that are the most cherished in conventional society: fidelity, the family, and convention. The horrorific episodes echo our psychological horrors - fear of betrayal, fear of the alien, fear of the changeling, which is perhaps a metaphor for fear of our own children or fear of unwittingly supporting another's child. 3/5 sbv17 (Boston, MA) - See all my reviews This review is from: American Horror Story Season 1 (Amazon Instant Video) I've watched five or six episodes of this show. A layered horror show that keeps one guessing!

I love any well-made horror movie or series, and love American Horror Story (Season One just ended). It is a well-made, layered horror story centering on a dysfunctional family - Ben Harmon (Dylan McDermott), Vivien Harmon (Connie Britten), and teen daughter Violet (Taissa Farmiga, wonder is she is related to Vera Farmiga?). Ben is a psychiatrist who is in the doghouse because Vivien discovered him having an affair with his student. Vivien is also suffering mental anguish over her recent miscarriage. The couple try to put things right by moving from Boston to LA, where they buy a restored Gothic mansion. Daughter Violet is a taciturn teen who resents her parents for putting her through this, and has a hard time at her new school.Little does the Harmon family realize that their home is horribly haunted. Yes, 'horribly' because it is not merely one or two otherworldly entities that inhabit this house, but a whole plethora of lost, unhappy, wandering souls that are somehow... 5/5 Z Hayes (TX, USA) - See all my reviews, December 23, 2011

Know what you're getting into and it's awesome

This is the long awaited (by some at least) movie about Mike Jones and how he got his start in the rap game. We knew going in that it wouldn't be Oscar worthy, but we were hoping for at least some unintentional comedy. It was disappointing to say the least, hard to get through and really almost unwatchable. 2/5 Jordan - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Movie

    Rating (7 reviews):
    (3.0/5)

The stars are for the product - nothing else

This is a college frat house party film, so in that aspect it gets one star for almost feeling like a docudrama, and the supplements are more thorough than one would ever normally see for a film this low brow - so it gets one more. This Johnny Lechner is apparently a legend in the college community for his ability to "get high school chicks" even into his fourteenth year of going to college. The story follows two underlings as they navigate the tribulations of college partying as taught by this Lechner guy (who has apparently made it onto Letterman in the real world). I suppose if I were in college and felt that all females are there strictly for being naked, having sex, then disposing of them for more "high school chicks" - then I might dig this film. There isn't really any acting or competent camera work, this is just strictly a 24 hour frat house party caught on film. The supplements contain 5 minutes of alternate/deleted scenes, 5 1/2 minutes of John Reisig's... 2/5 Steve Kuehl "SLV Video" (Boulder Creek, CA) - See all my reviews, July 28, 2009

American Pie Wanna Be.....and a bad one at that.

Total waste of your time. The story is very familiar by now. College partying, a few topless women, normal teen movie stuff. All the cast is unfamiliar. Women are not even decent looking. The entire movie is boring to say the least. It never grabs your interest. How people like this mindless crap I will never know. Beautiful timepiece

I just received this watch as a gift. It is first and foremost a great timekeeping instrument. The second hand is precise and lands and lines up correctly with each tick.I like the screw down crown which gives added protection during water activities. The hands and face of the watch have super bright illumination in the dark, making it very easy to read at night. The rotating bezel is convenient and easy to use as a timer. The look of the watch itself is sporty, polished, and dignified. Can be worn on a suit, with jeans, or even with shorts. An everyday watch with class. The weight of the watch is a bit heavy but one gets used to it.Other metal band watches have tended to pull the hair out of my arms. This watch, with it's metal band, has yet to do so. Fits very comfortably.I'm hoping to wear this watch for years to come. 5/5 rdkhale - See all my reviews This review is from: Bulova Men's 98B131 Marine Star Black Dial Bracelet Watch (Watch) I just received this watch as a gift. love this watch

Received this watch for Christmas. I wanted to get an Invicta and may still get one in the future. Went to an outlet store and they had this watch marked down to $200. Compared it to the automatic Invicta and the Bulova feels like a higher end item. The band on the Invicta felt light and cheap. Have gotten compliments on the watch and someone even confused it for a Rolex. 5/5 luvinit - See all my reviews This review is from: Bulova Men's 98B131 Marine Star Black Dial Bracelet Watch (Watch) Received this watch for Christmas. A well built watch at a real good price

This is simply a well built quartz watch that pays homage to the Rolex Submariner at a fraction of the price. Don't get me wrong. This is NO Rolex Submariner in any capabilities or quality likeness. But its very obvious that Bulova took some cues from the Submariner in the looks dept when making this watch. This watch is what is. A well built watch at a good price. For under $160.00 its not bad. These are selling at the malls for a higher price. The Invicta brand also makes some of their watches in homage to the Submariner. I purchased an Invicta at Costco. Within six months the crown fell out while changing the time. Invicta watches really lack in quality. This Bulova 98B131 is way above Invicta in the same price range. Overall Workmanship and quality is much better compared to other watches in this price range. The case and bracelet is a good size. Not too big and not too small. Weight is perfect. Not too light and not too heavy. Ofcourse unless you like heavy or very light watches... 4/5 M.A.K (Los Angeles, CA) - See all my reviews This review is from: Bulova Men's 98B131 Marine Star Black Dial Bracelet Watch (Watch) This is simply a well built quartz watch that pays homage to the Rolex Submariner at a fraction of the price. Doesn't work well

I bought this vacuum to keep the dust out of my two computers. The vacuum gets hot quickly when using the smaller tip, but it doesn't vacuum that well without the smaller tip. Even with the smaller tip I found that it worked better as a blower than as a vacuum. However, after using it to maintain only two computers for approximately five cleanings it is beginning to lose its power, and to heat up more quickly.I would have chosen a different product had I known this previous to purchase, so I'm rating this to help others. 1/5 Forest7 - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Plenty of power, and no, it doesn't get THAT hot

I've seen the other reviews here recently, and I'm not sure what folks are complaining about. Yes, there's an AC motor in here, so things will tend to get a little warm when moving that much air. We have a Hoover upright at home, and while the sucking power of this little thing doesn't approach that Vacuum, it does admirably enough that I no longer need to use the Hoover. The attachment you see in the photo representing the vacuum is great for getting those dust bunnies out from the bottom of the case, and even better for cleaning off exhaust grates and fan assemblies. If you've got a fine layer of dust on something, this, and my Hoover, aren't very good at this. To make this vacuum the one-two punch you need for dust, you need either compressed air, or a hose from a compressor to help loosen things up. That's how I did it with the upright, and that's how I do it with this thing. As for the heat, I've had it on for extended periods of time, 5-7 minutes a stretch and... 4/5 B. Compelling narrative poetry

Exquisitely crafted narrative poetry, this sequel to "The Way a Door Closes" details what happens in C.J.'s life after his father returns to the family from a prolonged absence. C.J. describes his prodigal father this way: "He is a table with a wobbly leg. It looks reliable but I wouldn't trust it with the good china." Watercolors with stark contrast provide candid portraits of the family. This book, even more than its' predecessor, really touches on issues in black families in America. Keeping the Night Watch

My favorite poem was Zuri's ABC's and Dance With Me.I really liked the book because most of the time in growing up you feel all crowded and are suffocating in your own family space. But you also learn that its ok to suffocate, just for a while, because when your family is killing you, their killing you with love. 5/5 C. E. Barczykowski - See all my reviews, April 28, 2008

A beautiful story of anger and forgiveness

Thirteen year old C.J. became the man of the house when his father walked out on the family. Now that his father is back, C.J. struggles to find not only his place in the family but also forgiveness for his father, who is doing everything in his power to make amends. Told in free verse poetry, this book tells the journey from fall to spring, from hate to forgiveness, and from separation to unity. The simple words are rich with figurative language. C.J. compares the family conversations to baking, his father's eyes to a white flag of surrender, and the family's security to fine bone-china. Although each poem could stand alone, woven together, they tell the story of a healing family. Offsetting the serious nature of forgiving a father who abandoned him, C.J. also describes his crush on Maya and his nervousness when he's around her. The addition of these poems creates a balanced look at a teenage boy. The pictures, illustrated by E.B. Lewis, add fill in the blanks left by the... 5/5 Laura A.
