  The best watch book ever

  Finally, a great book on watches. What makes this book so special is that it works for everyone who loves timepieces, whether they're beginners or experts.The book is divided into several sections, including a smart introduction on "what is a watch?" and an informative history of timepieces. The bulk of the book is an interesting survey of fifty of the greatest brands of all time, from Patek to Elgin, from Audemars to Zenith. Then comes one of the best parts of the book--a very useful section on how to collect and maintain your watches, plus instructive first-person accounts from some of the world's top collectors. Finally, there's a glossary of understandable definitions of the most common watch terms.Most of all, there are over 600 stunning color illustrations, culled from auction houses, private collections, watch companies, as well as hundreds of original photographs shot exclusively for the book.All in all, this makes a great gift and a great... 5/5 N.   Good Quality just a bit small

  When ordering this item, it didn't really give me any way to determine the size of this pocket watch. I wanted something bigger than this item I ordered. However, the construction of this watch is good enough to warrant keeping. I will be now using this as a gift for a future birthday or Christmas, and buying myself another pocket-watch. It's been a few days already and it has kept time accurately.My only reason for the 4-star rating, is because it is smaller than I expected (wanted something twice the size).   Just Like an Antique

  I love this necklace! I've worn it twice so far, and no broken clasps or anything (though I'm trying to be gentle after the previous review). It came with a battery and was easy to set the time. Everything about it--the detail work, the chain, and the color--is beautiful. The only thing to keep in mind is that the chain is actually a total of 30 inches (15 inches doubled).   Overpriced for cheap components

  A friend broke my other mechanical pocket watch when I loaned it to her, and I needed a watch for a costume, so I went ahead and bought this. It looks nice in the pictures, and if you look at it from 10 feet away, it's good enough, but it's made of the cheapest materials on earth. To top it off, the one I received was covered in oxidation on about 1/4 of the outer watch face. I didn't have time to return it and try again, so I just stuck with it, but I can't believe they're getting away with charging $40 for this piece of junk. My original pocket watch, of a similar design with superior materials, cost $15, and I could even read the time on it.   This is a must have for anyone who loves watches and collecting them. This watch is very SOLID and you can tell as soon as you pick it up that it is a qaulity product. The watch demands respect and is noticed by everyone when you wear it. It can be a dress watch or a hangout watch very versitle and elegant. The price is a tad up there, but it is a must have for you collection.   absolutely beautiful watch. I have wanted this thing for years and finally built up the courage to buy it. everyone has covered all the in depth attributes of the watch but what i will add is that the band is pretty large (i do have a rather small wrist) and you will probably need a few links removed. i know this is common but what is not common are the pins used in the links. good luck 5/5 L.   I've just received this watch in the mail so I can't comment on how well it actually keeps time, though I can tell you how very pleased I am overall. The quality of detailing is beautiful, it seems to have this perfect weight about it, it even sounds good. I was curious to see if the face of the watch was open or covered since the case itself is see through, and I was so glad to see that it was. I was scared that if it were open the hands may be vulnerable, being so small, but they're safely tucked away behind a protective glass cover. I recall reading a review stating that they thought the chain seemed to be of cheaper quality than they expected. This probably caused me to think that the chain would be a flimsy piece of garbage, but it also may have led to me being pleasantly surprised as the chain seems wonderful to me. There was one final detail that immediately sealed the 5 star deal in my review, and that would be the seller included a spare battery inside the box.   Though this watch is made out of "cheap" materials, it is very appealing. It has the feel of a worn antique pocket watch. It looks and works great. The price is almost nothing.   Steampunk Pocketwatch

  My wife and I each got a pocketwatch for our Steampunk costumes for this Halloween. I admit that bases on the price, we were expecting this pocketwatch to be a flimsy costume piece. Much to our surprise, this watch is VERY nice! The amber front is nice and thick and pops open easily to reveal and antique looking face. The pocketwatch case is nicely engraved, and looks very antique. The piece is heavy, but the attached chain is nice and heavy, so I'm not worried about it breaking the chain.Rather than a cheap costume piece, this watch is a heavy, nice piece, one that can be passed on and treasured.   This book contains a wealth of information on basic watch theory and a thorough dicussion of hand wound mechanical watches. It covers problems that can be encountered and methods to correct a wide variety of them. He offers proven techniques for disassembly, diagnosis, cleaning and lubrication and reassembly of non-complicated watches.   Great Mechanical Watch Repair Text

  This book was originally published in 1946, and it's still in print because it's the best. The text is straight forward, clear and easy to understand. The illustrations are very helpful, maybe even excessive, but to someone who knew nothing about the subject before starting the book, that's not so bad. The newer editions have a small section on quartz repair, but due to the advances in electronics, it is dated. The theory is helpful, but those seeking to learn quartz repair only probably need another book. I'd been looking for a good pocket-watch necklace for a really long time with numerous disappointments, when I came across this one and impulsively bought it. It came two days later, with a handwritten thanks-for-your-business note, which was both touching and had detailed return instructions. The piece itself is exquisite, although a bit small when compared to a standard pocket watch. I remember reviews complaining about the size, and it's true that the clock face is about the size of a quarter, but it's actually the perfect size for it. It's a 3D orb, so basically you're wearing a glass ball with a working antique-looking clock inside of it. The chain tassel and spinning top part complete it.   Pretty, but no instructions.

  My necklace hasn't broken yet, but as another review said, it's not a sturdy chain. The watch itself is gorgeous, but mine was ticking when it arrived, and already seems to be losing a few minutes each day.... about 15min/24hr so far, and with no instructions or labeling of any kind, I have no idea if the battery can even BE changed. It's a pretty piece, but don't rely on it as an actual timepiece. The tassle was not to my liking, so I replaced it with a antiqued looking feather in a similar patina.The globe is not glass, the half orbs on front and back are acrylic. The holder on which the watch swivels is plastic with a metal overlay (it feels light and flimsy).   Gorgeous piece, but chain is pretty thin

  The watch itself appears slightly smaller than I had expected (trick of the glass, I think), but no less stunning for that. The dial has a little blue "gem" on it, which adds a nice touch -- it would be easy to add more "touches" to the end of the chain tassel, if desired. The metal piece that it hangs/swivels on is fairly heavy, but can be pried out of the watch itself without much difficulty yet without worrying that the watch might just fall off one day.The chain itself is delicate for such a heavy piece though -- looks-wise and physically. It broke on me when it barely snagged on something the first time I wore it. However, since a heavier chain looks better (imho), it might be worth simply replacing it with a heavier brass chain from the beginning. Well worth the price just for the watchpiece -- I dock a star only because the chain is too delicate for the weight of the watch imho -- and would make a great gift for anyone who likes steampunk, victorian pieces, or... 4/5 S.   Kind of expensive, but who wouldn't want it?

  My package arrived 4 days after I ordered it, which was exactly on time. It comes in a package, inside a little tin. I'll admit, it's kind of small, but the design is exactly like Sebastian's real watch, and the material isn't flimsy or cheap. A quick google and I was able to set the time. Overall, love love love it, but I'm sure that the original price was probably 15 bucks or something.   This is an adorable time piece! Reading other customer reviews made it very easy to figure out that you open the face by pushing the top part in and set the time by gently pulling out the smaller knob on top of that (and then turning it of course).
