Wow! Instant hot water. What a concept!

If your living in a place like mine where your hot water heater is a long way from the kitchen sink, then you are probably going crazy like I was waiting and waiting for the hot water to finally get to the faucet. There are technical ways to remedy this, but they involve a lot of plumbing, auxiliary pumps, and ripping half your house apart. Since I rent, I was thinking that the landlord wouldn't take to kindly to this idea. So I started casting about for a better solution. That's when I came up with the idea of putting a little water heater as close to the kitchen faucet as possible. With this, the hot water is right there where you need it. No waiting and wasting a lot of water while running the faucet so that a half mile of plumbing warms up.'Only problem is a tiny tank has very limited capacity. If you're only washing a dish or two like me, then no problem. But if you wash a sink full of dishes, it will quickly run out.But the trick is to... 5/5 D. Fast hot water, inexpensive to run

This mini-tank water heater works very well and we love not having to wait for hot water at the kitchen sink. The form-factor is also very convenient for mounting under the kitchen sink, unlike some other small point-of-use water heaters.I have this hooked up inline with a gas tankless water heater and I wanted to know how much this new heater was costing me in electricity, so I hooked up a meter to check it out for a few weeks. It turns out that, with our normal usage, it uses just about 5 KWH/week - which works out to about $2/month in our area. Before this heater, we had to run a full 2 gallons of water down the drain before getting hot water to the sink - which was both a big pain and somewhat wasteful. With this 4 gallon heater, we basically have an instant and endless supply of hot water at the sink since the hot water from the main tankless unit arrives before the water cools too noticeably. I've also noticed that it seems to heat water on it's own... 4/5 D. Matheny (Austin, TX) - See all my reviews, May 20, 2008

    Great Product

Ever since we moved into our new house my wife has complained about how long it took the hot water to get to the kitchen sink from the hot water heater in the garage. Since installing the Ariston GL 4, she has been ecstatic!! Hot water is instant. It is such a pleasure not to have her complain about our former water problem. Even when I am "forced" to do the dishes, I can't complain about our lack of hot H2O. Installation was easy except for the ill-fitting two top fittings. They will accept the hose extentions (hardware store), but you must be firm and patient. It took away alot of our storage space beneath the sink, but it was worth it. 5/5 S. Two Fail in 2 & 3 years

I bought two GL2.5 water heaters in 3/2006 & installed one for a master bedroom and the other for the kitchen sink w/a T to dishwasher. Very nice to have hot water fast. Otherwise have to wait for it to come from attic quite some distance. BUT the directions suggest CLEANING it out every year. This pretty much means uninstall it if in a tight location! Turn upside down to drain, descale element and REPLACE ANODE! Every YEAR! Have you ever done that with a water heater... and they last 10 yrs. no problem! Well here, I did not do that & the first started to fail in late 2007. The thermostat breaker would kick off & I would reset it. Then that stopped working and I ordered a replacement thermostat in 4/2008 from Grainger. That worked & then we had our main circuit breaker kicking off easy. I think it was shorting through the mineral deposits! Unknown to me at the time... Then the tank fails mid-2009. The solution for point-of-use warm water

I live in the northeast. It gets cold here. My basement is warmer than outdoors, but, despite copiously wrapping my pipes in insulation, I get cold water in my kitchen sink for something like 8-9 seconds (at full blast) before the water becomes passably warm. Working from home, having rambunctious teenagers and more than a few dogs, I do a lot of cleaning and hand-washing. I wasted a lot of water (water which was previously heated at some expense) trying just to get a little warm water. Worse, the dishwasher didn't change water fast enough to keep the water in the line warm, so the dishes would get rinsed in cold water every time, even if you use the water heat option for the wash. Certainly this is not a big problem, but I lived with it for five winters and decided this was the time to do something about it.I purchased this point-of-use water heater (the smallest of three versions) so that it would fit underneath my kitchen cabinet. I've been using it for a few... 5/5 Michael L. Wiersma "ksmichael" (Springfield, MA United States) - See all my reviews, March 11, 2007

    Great price, works great also!!

I hooked this up in the kitchen sink to avoid a 30 foot run from the main HWH. It took about 1 hour under the sink and another 30 minutes installing another power outlet. The heater works great. The 2.5 gallon supply is plenty to handle dishes and hand washes. I disconnected the main supply and have not missed it. 5/5 G. Austin "vulcan" - See all my reviews, September 30, 2007

    Great little heater

This is our 2nd Ariston heater - the first is a 4 gallon under the kitchen sink. We got this one to sit in our basement bathroom and feed it, the main floor bathroom sink and a future 1/2 bath on the 2nd floor. It just makes so much sense to keep a small amount of hot water ready to use right near the fixture. That way you don't have to waste a bunch of water if you need hot water. These seem very well insulated, so I think that the standby losses are negligible. Our main heater is a gas tankless, and these really help improve the performance for intermittent uses such as washing hands or dishes. I just put this inline with the tankless, so that it can "smooth" out our hot water. The tankless works best for steady uses, such as showers and filling a dishwasher. Adding one of these Aristons gives you the best of all worlds. 5/5 orangejulio (Portland, OR USA) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) AWESOME!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------UPDATE JUNE 17, 2010 - BOTH CONTINUE TO WORK GREAT. EXCEEDED MY OWN EXPECTATION.---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------I've purchased 2 of these for two different purposes. Both are GREAT! Easy to install (I am boarder-line incompetent when it comes to plumbing and even I was able to do this with only a couple trips to the local hardware store). The quality does not seem all the great ... but for the price and so far (one I've had and used for almost 2 months, the other almost a month) they work fine and there are no problems.FACTUALLY: It does seem to take a good half hour or more to heat up and re-heat once the hot water is used. It would not in any way be useful as a tank-less water heater since only lukewarm water at best comes out as the tank reheats. Also, I live in Southern California and it... 5/5 jon123 - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) RV Replacement

I used this for a replacement water heater in my travel trailer. I did not fit in the origianal space, so I installed it in the closet space and connected it with the original plumbing with plastic hose. You have to be plugged in to use it, but other than that it works great and at a cost of about 2/5th of what an RV water heater would cost. 5/5 Thure (Montana, USA) - See all my reviews This review is from: Bosch GL6 Ariston 6-Gallon Point-of-Use Indoor Electric Mini-Tank Water Heater (Tools & Home Improvement) I used this for a replacement water heater in my travel trailer. You better think twice

I've owned this appliance since Sept 2007. While the wash cycle is acceptable (small loads only), the dryer cycle is a total fiasco. If you have the option of a traditional stackable washer/dryer with vented dryer get that instead. The dryer part is terrible because clothes get super hot (and will shrink... there's NO temp selector: it's high heat or off) and yet will have many patches that are wet throughout. It takes several hours to complete a dry cycle, clothes come out extremely wrinkled, and they will have a funny odor (as if you had left a wet towel in your gym bag in the trunk of your car all day in the sun). The "ventless" dryer is a terrible invention. You're better off with a traditional dryer or using a clothes line. On top of that, my machine just broke (spin cycle drum is loose, and won't stop spinning), and customer service is next to nonexistent). Buyer beware! 1/5 William Kemp - See all my reviews I've owned this appliance since Sept 2007. While the wash cycle is acceptable (small loads only), the dryer cycle is a total fiasco. Incredibly impractical and useless

I have used this Ariston washer/dryer combo for almost a year and I would have to say it is the most frustrating appliance I have ever had. Avoid any kind of ventless washer/dryer combo units if you can, even the best ones perform much poorly than conventional washer & dryers (Google search ventless washer/dryer combo units and you will find a ton of poor reviews). The savings in water and energy barely makes up for the ton of shortcomings of this product. Some of the faults of this washer/dryer:- Capacity is very small, not ideal for families or those who wash a lot of clothes.- Eventhough front loading washers cleans better than top loading washers, this washer doesn't clean very well. I end up using more detergent (and spot clean before washing) and using multiple smaller loads which is even worse for the environment.- The softener and bleach dispenser does not dispense evenly nor entirely. Most of the problems are due to the dryer... 1/5 A. Warranty issues

Please be aware that the manufacturer of Ariston brand does not have presense in US. I had purchased a washer/dryer from them in 2006 and it was sold to me with a full 2-year warranty (one of the reasons to choose it then). Now it is broken and they don't want to honor the warranty telling that they have no legal obligations to do so. 1/5 Roman Tumaykin - See all my reviews, May 4, 2008

    Worked for me

This washer/dryer was provided with a condo I bought in CA. It took a little getting accustomed to because they just don't function the same way a regular washer and dryer would. After a little adjustment and learning how to sort cloths differently it worked great for me. Two of us used this machine typically doing laundry every other day or so depending on how many cloths we used since the drum doesn't hold much, but it was great to be able to throw cloths in on my way to work or before bed and have them ready to go when I got back/up. Main issue was that I pretty much had to iron everything, the drum is just to small to really give the fabric much chance of fluffing out. I lived in the apartment for about 2 years and have been renting the place out for another 3 years and the only problem that has ever occured with this machine is a belt that come of and later wore out and had to be replaced. I'd deffinately buy another machine like this. 4/5 R. McClure "Saeed" (Washington, DC) - See all my reviews, October 28, 2010
