About this book
The first generation of "Digital Natives"-children who were born into and raised in the digital world-are coming of age, and soon our world will be reshaped in their image. Our economy, our politics, our culture, and even the shape of our family life will be forever transformed. But who are these Digital Natives? And what is the world they're creating going to look like?In Born Digital, leading Internet and technology experts John Palfrey and Urs Gasser offer a sociological portrait of these young people, who can seem, even to those merely a generation older, both extraordinarily sophisticated and strangely narrow. Exploring a broad range of issues, from the highly philosophical to the purely practical, Born Digital will be essential reading for parents, teachers, and the myriad of confused adults who want to understand the digital present-and shape the digital future.

Digital Electronics Demystified

Creator: Michael Predko | Technology & Engineering - 2005

This unique guide offers problems at the end of each chapter and section to pinpoint weaknesses, and a 100-question final exam to reinforce the entire book.

Publisher: McGraw-Hill Professional

About this book
The field of teaching digital electronics has not changed significantly in the past 20 years. Many of the same books that first became available in the late 1970s and early 1980s are still being used as basic texts. In the 20+ years since these were written, the basic rules have not changed, but they do not provide strong links to modern electronics including CMOS logic, Programmable Logic Devices and microprocessor/microcontroller interfacing. Courses teaching introductory digital electronics will fill in the missing areas of information for students, but neither the instructors nor students have resources to explain modern technology and interfaces. One assumption made by all the standard texts is that experimenting with digital electronics cannot be done easily - in the proposed book, “digital guru” Myke Predko will show how readers can set up their own apparatus for experimenting with digital electronics for less than $10.

Grown Up Digital, How the Net Generation Is Changing Your World

Creator: Don Tapscott | 2009

" --William D. Green, Chairman & CEO, Accenture "The first guide to the land of the Net Generation that should be read both by visitors and residents alike.

Publisher: McGraw-Hill Professional

About this book
SELECTED AS A 2008 BEST BUSINESS BOOK OF THE YEAR BY THE ECONOMISTThe Net Generation Has Arrived. Are you ready for it?Chances are you know a person between the ages of 11 and 30. You've seen them doing five things at once: texting friends, downloading music, uploading videos, watching a movie on a two-inch screen, and doing who-knows-what on Facebook or MySpace. They're the first generation to have literally grown up digital--and they're part of a global cultural phenomenon that's here to stay. The bottom line is this: If you understand the Net Generation, you will understand the future. If you're a Baby Boomer or Gen-Xer: This is your field guide.A fascinating inside look at the Net Generation, Grown Up Digital is inspired by a $4 million private research study. New York Times bestselling author Don Tapscott has surveyed more than 11,000 young people. Instead of a bunch of spoiled “screenagers” with short attention spans and zero social skills, he discovered a remarkably bright community which has developed revolutionary new ways of thinking, interacting, working, and socializing.Grown Up Digital reveals:How the brain of the Net Generation processes information Seven ways to attract and engage young talent in the workforceSeven guidelines for educators to tap the Net Gen potentialParenting 2.0: There's no place like the new home Citizen Net: How young people and the Internet are transforming democracyToday's young people are using technology in ways you could never imagine. Instead of passively watching television, the “Net Geners” are actively participating in the distribution of entertainment and information. For the first time in history, youth are the authorities on something really important. And they're changing every aspect of our society-from the workplace to the marketplace, from the classroom to the living room, from the voting booth to the Oval Office. The Digital Age is here. The Net Generation has arrived. Meet the future.

    Nice watch

I really like this watch, I got it for working out and jogging. I think it has a nice pleasant look to it, unlike many digital watches, and it is very comfortable to wear. Watch is very lightweight and the band looks very handsome. Has everything you really need, two time zones, timer, stopwatch, daily alarm, indiglo. I use the stopwatch to time how long my tea brews, and the timer to keep myself from burning things in the oven. The alarm has no snooze, so I wouldn't rely on that to wake you up, but perhaps you could use the alarm as a reminder to do something. For 15 bucks, this watch is a great buy. 5/5 The World's Greatest (Sacramento, CA) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Good watch for the price

Nice lightweight watch, indigo light works great, looks good for an inexpensive watch. Gone swimming and banged it around a little bit, and it is holding up fine after 2 years! 4/5 Robert T. Brennan "Rob_1970" (Cape Cod, MA) - See all my reviews, September 3, 2009

    Still tlcking

When I was a child, I remember John Cameron Swayze advertising Timex watches, ending with the line, "Takes a licking, keeps on ticking." I needed a watch that was digital. sitable for use outdoors, and able to be read at night. I chose the Timex because it had all of these features, plus showed day, date, could time events, had an alarm, and showed either 24 hour day or a.m./p.m. readings. I am totally pleasaed with the Timex. It is very easy to learn how to change the settings, enter the time, and is very easy to read. I needed a replacement for an older digital watch that I purchased on a cruise. The Timex surpassed all my expectations, and cost less that $20.00, which was the price back in 1976. A better product for a lower price. 5/5 Dallas W. Robertson Jr. "figure this!" (DeRidder, LA USA) - See all my reviews, December 5, 2010

    Not a G-Shock - but that's a good thing!

Just got this watch after ordering a few days ago. Strange thing is, you won't find any product information about it on Casio's US website. Let's get to it:Pros:1) Not as bulky as a G-Shock:If you're like me and you want a fully-functioning digital watch without the enormous bulk of a G-Shock, then this watch may fit your bill (even the midsize G-Shocks are tad too large in my book). However, this watch isn't tiny either: The across-width, measured between the buttons on either side but not including buttons, is just a 1/16 inch shy 1.5 inches. The top-to-bottom height, measured between the outside of the top bezel above the "Casio" insignia to the outside of the lower bezel below the "WATER 100M RESIST" is 1 3/16 inches, and just about 1/2 inch thick.2) Plenty of features:Dual time, stop-watch with split times, displays the time during the stop-watch function, date setup that knows the day of the week (accounts for leap year too), large display,... 5/5 Alright Okay "Alright Okay" (Harlem, NYC) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Not a head turner, just a good old classic cass

If your looking for an inexpensive digital watch that has all the features like dual time, alarm with snooze, stopwatch, water resistance, long life battery (10 yrs) and a band that won't die on you then this is a great buy.The alarm has a good feature in that you can set the day or day/month for the alarm to go off.Sure enough there is no countdown timer on this model, but at the end of the day it does what it is designed to do -tell the time, and accurately.Another excellent feature of this watch is that when your setting the alarm, the current time is displayed as well, and also when in stopwatch mode and of course when it's on dual time. One thing I like about the watch itself is that the face features the day in three letters, the year in full, day and month, and the digital time display is set in large numbers. It's made in China, but don't let this put you off, mine hasn't missed a beat and I'm sure its made to... 4/5 Jonathan Selkirk "Watchman" (Darwin, NT, Australia) - See all my reviews, April 7, 2010

It does the job it's advertised to do.

I got tired of paying $25 to $30 for digital watches that have both the battery and the band go out at the same time, necessitating a $15 expenditure on the watch, so I got this one. It fits well, and keeps good time and it's not bulky and in the way. To prevent scratching, I cut a fitted piece of PDA plastic cover to put over the face. It self-adheres and is easy enough to remove and replace when it gets scratched. If you cut it right, you can't even tell that it's there. Why Casio doesn't make replaceable covers to begin with, I'll never know, because you know what? They'll never tell me, even if I ask nicely. 4/5 John "The truth is out there - take time to l... very cute watch

I chose this watch because of its unique look and have received compliments on it. It really has a clean, fresh appearance and is comfortable to wear. I wear a watch daily and often the screen will become scratched. This has not been a problem. The screen and entire watch continue to look like new after a month of constant wear. The only thing I do not like about this watch is that the mode button seems to be easy to bump and frequently I find myself looking at the alarm time or the dual time. If you aren't paying attention, this can be a problem. Initially this was all a little confusing but now that I am aware of the issue I try to keep the dual time set the same as my local time and I glance at the top of the display for the current date and know I have the right time. Overall, I definitely would recommend this watch. 4/5 twin mom (Pennsylvania) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Cool

I bought this for my 8 year old daughter - she loves it. It's a very playful, modern looking watch - I'd even wear it (if she let me)! It's held up perfectly - the white stays white too. 5/5 N. Rossouw "Nico" (Seattle) - See all my reviews, October 4, 2009

I'm really happy with this watch. It looks great and I've had a lot of people ask me where to get one. I have the white one, and it has pretty much stayed the bright white color it was right out of the box. The only part that seems to get dirty is the rubber clasp that holds the watch band in place. The watch is easy to use and very comfortable. 5/5 Sardap (Sacramento, CA) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) A great device WHEN you consider price and function, with a few flaws

The first and most important thing that should be said about the Kindle Fire is that this is not an "iPad-killer." It is not designed to be. I have seen so many articles and comments comparing this to the iPad, and surveys where people are asked if they will be buying a Kindle Fire over an iPad this Christmas. If you are expecting an iPad, or even a tablet, you will be disappointed. The main purpose of this device is to deliver Amazon content to you more effectively. It is designed for consumption, not creation. That is the reason it is so cheap and why Amazon is taking a loss on it. They are hoping to make up for that loss through sales of videos, music, books, and apps through Amazon's Web Services. You can also use it to view your own movies and media, but will find that it is more limited in that way than a regular tablet. Personally, as someone who has ordered several rentals from Amazon Video, and had to contact customer support for every single one of them due to... 4/5 Scott - See all my reviews, November 14, 2011

Great device, you will enjoy it

I picked mine up today at Best Buy. At home I plugged it in and set up the WIFI and my Amazon account and it immediately told me that an update was downloading. After about 10 to 12 minutes it rebooted and started working. I own an iPhone, iPad 2, HP Touchpad and a Kindle Keyboard version. This device compares with the Ipad. The reviews that blast the Kindle Fire as being no good are just not true. I am a retired CEO and computer Guru and have a great WIFI set up in my home. Here is my quick and dirty review:WIFI fast and easy to set up and useKeyboard types great, much better than the HP Touchpad and as good if not better than the iPad.Display high resolution comparable to the iPad 2The device downloaded my 100 books in minutes. Most books downloaded to the device in 3 to 4 seconds. A couple of large books took 5 seconds and I am talking about books with 800 pages!Web browsing is extremely fast. I want to love it, I really do. But I can't.

As a long-time Kindle fan I was eager to get my hands on a Fire. For the most part I've found that it does what I wanted it to, which is be the one device I can take with me anywhere. There are some great features; the reader app is excellent (though not without flaws), the app store experience is terrific, videos are fantastic, and the device is quick and for the most part dead-simple to use, all thanks to the services Amazon provides. And of course the extras that come with Prime membership really make it a real value - I won't be cancelling my Netflix streaming account just yet (watching Netflix on the Fire works very well) but I imagine within a year Amazon's free streaming video catalog will be just as good as Netflix. The free "lending library" book every month really is the icing on the cake though, and makes Prime membership a no-brainer. The hardware itself is solid and has a quality feel, it's just the right size for one-handed use, and the screen is fantastic (for an LCD... 3/5 waetherman - See all my reviews, November 15, 2011

    Even better than I expected!

Really happy with this watch! I wish I had searched for it over a year ago, because I've always wondered if there really was a better option than plastic wristbands for digital. I decided now that I'm about to start a new job, that I had to look more professional than plastic, and this really is a great looking and performing watch.I'm very impressed with the mode menu and settings. I'm sure some people do think it's complicated because none of them are really easy, but I've used 3 different digital watches in the last 3 weeks while shopping for this one, so I no longer even need to look at manuals. They all work more or less, by pressing through the Mode button. Well, I was quite surprised that this one feeds you instructions in letter format as you go through the mode button! "Hold SET" "Hold RST" etc. It's the only digital watch I've ever seen that does that, and therefore, I had it set in even less time than usual. (About 2 minutes.)One more tidbit on why... 5/5 Julie M. Kacir "Julie Kacir" (Everett, WA) - See all my reviews, December 31, 2010

    excellent tool!

This is by far the best tire gauge I've ever had. It lights brightly, easy to see even in sun and always visible at night. Accuracy is high, construction quality is excellent. Highly recommended! 5/5 James P. Lammers "3D Artist" (Lees Summit, MO United States) - See all my reviews, February 22, 2006

    Uses lots of batteries.

While this product works fine, and is accurate, it uses (3) A76 watch batteries. That's a lot of batteries. and the batteries generally only last about 6 months. I have to pay $2 ea for the batteries. Total $6 each time. That's $12 a year. and the unit only cost $8.Maybe a unit that uses lithium or other long-lasting batteries would be better.Next time, i think i will try one of the better, more-expensive units. 3/5 Randy D. Great for my non-terrorist timekeeping activities!

As a non-terrorist I find this sits very comfortably on an infidels wrist. I principally use it as an IET (improvised egg timer), and would heartily recommend it to anyone (not being occupied by an imperialist banana republic) who wishes to launch a Jihad against runny eggs. Casio be praised! 5/5 Mabuk - See all my reviews This review is from: Casio Men's F91W-1 Classic Black Digital Resin Strap Watch (Watch) As a non-terrorist I find this sits very comfortably on an infidels wrist. Excellent watch -- dependable, long lasting -- great for nurses

I've had this watch over 15 years, close to 20. A long time. I bought it at Targ*t. I had it in college, nursing school, wore it when I started my first job on night shift and it is still going strong. It is a super watch. It is a great watch for nursing. The light works well in dark rooms, the alarm is easy to set, the watch is waterproof for all those hand washings! I also always wore it in the pool- no problems. I think I've had to change the battery and band only once. Sturdy, good quality. 5/5 Blueberry mom (Middle of nothing and everything) - See all my reviews This review is from: Casio Men's F91W-1 Classic Black Digital Resin Strap Watch (Watch) I've had this watch over 15 years, close to 20. Basic Casio Watch--A Ok

I'll keep this short and sweet. This was my first digital watch nearly twenty years ago. I've had many since, and yes, I searched for this one and bought it. Why? Well, it's like me concise and to the point. Gives you what you want and need without the frills. Loved it then and love it now. 5/5 Laurentz Lewis (Bagram, Afghanistan) - See all my reviews, April 25, 2008

    I am IMPRESSED......

I changed my review from a 1 to a 5...here's why I am impressed. First, I had a Tanita scale; it told me my weight, body fat, water weight, bone weight, if my toe nails needed to be cut, etc. However, I could not read the display and as executive/non-athlete I did not need all this information. When that scale died, I went looking for a good solid simple scale. I liked the way this scale looked and the reviews on Amazon were good. Plus, the price was great. I got it right away, and it was great. Looked good, easy to read, and I liked the 0.2 denominations. However, unfortunately it stopped working after two weeks. I went to return it on Amazon and posted a disappointing review. Then the most amazing thing happened...this really happened...about an hour after I posted my review, I was contacted by the company. They read my review and apologized that my unit was not operating the way that it was supposed, discussed their high quality control and that this should not have happened,... 5/5 Marc D. Very accurate, but hard to turn on

The scale is very accurate. I stepped on and off multiple times, and always got the same number. Then I put on a light jacket, stepped on again, and it was up .6 pounds. Perfect! However, it is somewhat tricky turning the scale on. They say you're supposed to "tap" it with your foot to activate it, but nothing happens when I tap. The only thing that seems to work for me is if I slide my foot underneath the scale and lift it up slightly. This seems to turn it on, but it's a somewhat awkward maneuver. So I take off two stars for the difficulty in turning it on.UPDATE (3/25/2010) since writing my previous review, EatSmart has updated their product and gotten rid of the need to tap on. They sent me a new version, and it really does work much better. It seems just as accurate, though there is a .2 pound difference between the old scale and the new (which really isn't too bad). You step on the scale, and it just works. Much better!! 3/5 Elizabeth (New York, NY) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Great value in a bathroom scale!

When I finally decided to replace the old analog scale that I have had for the last decade I thought it was going to be an expensive and borderline painful process. After doing a little research, I purchased the EatSmart scale primarily because the large display was appealing (I have a very small apartment bathroom with one small overhead light) and the price seemed right.I have been nothing but thrilled with this purchase so far. The large screen allows for me to easily read the scale every time (even after I get out of the shower and the bathroom is fogged up). With my old analog I was always hunching over to figure out what major weights the dial was between. It also is very accurate (I weighed myself multiple times the first few times to test this) and has none of the huge weight fluctuations reported in the reviews of some of Amazon's other scales. Best of all the price was very reasonable versus scales with similar features I have seen elsewhere... 5/5 William Bennett (Scottsdale, AZ) - See all my reviews, November 14, 2008
