    Anniversary Accutron Spaceview 214 wristwatch

  • Jun 14, 2010 from annacardinal(Pricy-spicy)
annacardinal The first Bulova Accutron Spaceview 214 wristwatch was introduced in 1960. This battery operated non-quartz watch, was considered to be the most accurate timepiece available in those days. There were several Accutron models available in the 1960s. At this year’s BaselWorld 2010 Bulova re-introduces the Accutron Spaceview 214.

End of An Era: Bulova Chairman Henshel Dies

speedmaster An important if brief period in wristwatch history. Many still remember the Accutron Spaceview from the 1960s. Bulova licensed their tuning fork technology to a few others in the early 70s, such as Omega. The dashboard clocks in the Apollo lunar modules were Accutron powered. In fact, on Apollo 11 the clock broke, requiring Neil Armstrong to ...

    Accutron Astronaut Limited Edition

A nice homage of the original 214 Tuning Fork driven Astronaut Watch. It now has an ETA 2893-2 automatic, mechanical 21-jewel GMT movement, with a large red-tipped 24-hour hand and fixed anodized 24-hour bezel. Other features are a sapphire crystal, a very solid, stainless steel bracelet with a locking deployment buckle closure, 100m water resistance, and a four-screw exhibition caseback, numbered to show each piece's position within the limited run. It is also etched with the signature endorsement of former astronaut and moon-walker Buzz Aldrin. This Astronaut version is larger than the original though the case is similarly shaped. It has a functional but very small crown on the side which the original didn't (the hands were set from the caseback). I rated it only 4 stars because of the fixed bezel, which limits its use as a multi-time zone watch, and the poor luminous paint used on the hands and minute markers. No excuse for poor "lume" with the very good Super Luminova type... 4/5 James M Speicher - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) a classic

If you are a collector, you want one of these watches. Great Swiss movement, used by many other manufacturers, in different variations. It is also extreamely accurate, chronometer like. 5/5 tony - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
