  Product does as it says, but do your homework!

  I am very satisfied with this purchase. It is light weight, great for light duty hiking. All of the features are as advertised. The compass is very accurate and allows you to enter your "declination" to give you a true compass reading. The altimeter is very easy to set up and use. I have combined this with my GPS because it craps out in canyons and woods.I spent a long time reviewing different altimeters and reading individual reviews, and there was a general theme... "the altitude changes several hundred feet when left in the same location for a period of time." No duh! Do your homework, folks. It's called weather changes. Altimeters predict altitude, they do not measure it! Only a GPS knows your real altitude.A couple of minor nit-picks... you cannot see all of the measurements at the same time on one screen. You must push a button to view the altitude, temperature, and compass.   Good Value

  This product works well for the money, the Pressure is accurate along with temp & compass. The Altimeter works good as long as you calibrate it at a known elevation before each use this is critical, I understood that before I purchased it so i was not disappointed. I purchased this as a cheap way to get my range information before each shooting session, and for the money it works reasonably well for me, just remember to calibrate the altimeter before each use if an elevation reading is something you need (airports are good locations) I live near the Blue Ridge Parkway so I always have a set elevation I can use. I highly recommended the the wind meter that they package with this product it is a fantastic value and its small size and light wight all it to be placed in to a home built weather vane or tossed in your shirt pocket, it is highly accurate in both wind and temp readings. one note on it thou it will tell you if there is a windchill but it DOES NOT calculate what it is, which i... 4/5 Christopher K.   IMPORTANT NOTE: The temperature sensor is housed inside the unit and not exposed to the elements. The temperature is slow to respond because the entire housing must reach a steady-state temperature. This is referred to as the 'thermal mass time constant'. In addition, the unit will read artificially high temperature if placed in direct sunlight (due to the solar radiation energy). To receive a true measurement, place in a shaded area and out of contact with your body, and wait several minutes for the temperature to stabilize.

  IMPORTANT NOTE: This is an explanation about how altimeters work in general and is applicable to all altimeters. Altimeters are often misunderstood because they do not measure your actual position on the earth (true altitude) such as a GPS, but measure the air pressure and predict the altitude based on this measurement. This is referred to as "Pressure Altitude". Pressure Altitude is profoundly affected by the true altitude and to a lesser extent, changes in the weather, often referred to as barometric pressure changes. Thus, your Pressure Altitude can change without changing your position. These changes can be as great as a few hundred feet (the changes due to weather are more pronounced at higher altitude). To offset the difference between Pressure Altitude and True Altitude, you must calibrate the device at a known altitude, whenever convenient.

  The Handheld Weather Station includes a digital clock, thermometer, altimeter, compass, and barometer (relative and absolute with sea-level correction), and a weather forecaster.

  IMPORTANT NOTE: The forecast icon is based on the rate of change of barometric pressure. The rate of change of barometric pressure is a trend and may be one of several tools to predict weather 24 to 48 hours in advance. In general, if the rate of change of pressure increases, the weather is improving (sunny). If the rate of change of pressure decreases, the weather is degrading (cloudy or rainy). If the rate of change is relatively steady, it will read partly cloudy or partly sunny. The reason the current conditions do not match the forecast icon is because it is a prediction 24-48 hours in advance. In most locations, this prediction is only 70% accurate and it is a good idea to consult the National Weather Service for more accurate weather forecasts. In some locations, this prediction may be less or more accurate and requires you are stationary (not changing altitude).

  As you may have guessed by the picture, this watch is big. It has holes on sides just below the watch to let it breath. It is not waterproof, so best not shower or wash dishes with it. Lots of functions, some are more easy to understand and set than others. Compass and Altimeter work pretty good. Although altimeter will get off by couple 100 feet or so over time. Not sure what lunatidal interval is but I do not live by the ocean so not important. For the price and all the functions this is a solid built watch that is fairly easy to change out battery when it is that time.   Bought this watch after shopping strictly for one with a good digital compass and as many additional features as possible. Well, this watch pretty much does it all. Yeah it may look a little cheap, but it's actually pretty nice. It's PACKED with features, so many that you'll need 2 suunto watches together to perform the same way.UNFORTUNATELY, however, this watch is NOT water proof. It's water resistant, i.e will be fine in rain or washing your car.   Solo hike test.

  I took the Ambient Weather AT773 out for a test run on a hike up North Twin Mountain (4761') in the White Mountains of NH. I was impressed by the information the watch gives and found the accuracy of the Altimeter was within 100ft of the mountain's summit (the Altimeter was the main reason for this purchase) even more accurate on the descent as I set the Alt. to the summit's height and it was more acuurate, within 20' according to the maps. I liked knowing the temperature, the compass was fairly accurate and the barometer showed changes in the weather around me as I went from misty wet conditions low on the mountain to crystal clear sunny skies above the clouds at the summit. There is a learning curve though the readings are most acurate if the watch is off your wrist or at least pulled away from your skin (the sensor should be located in a more open area).   This altimeter is very easy to use. I have used it for over a year in the Arizona Deserts and the mountains of Colorado. The range of these two areas it has worked in is from less than 1000 feet to over 12500 feet and it was extremely accurate. It has about a 1% variation which is very very good for a device of this size. I use it velcroed to the dash of my Expedition. It is very easy to adjust if necessary; but , that rarely happens.   I agree with Joshua. This is a good altimeter for the money. Albeit I only go between 3 & 4 thousand feet (so far). I am really impressed with how accurate, [as well as easy] this thing is to adjust. I use it hanging from the lanyard (rope) that came with it, attached to my inside rear-view mirror.   Probably the best watch I own

  I am retired military and law enforcement... been through a lot of watches. I have a few Pathfinders and a Suunto, but I really like this watch - it has everything I need. I do some land navigation and survival instruction and use this watch exclusively. The only thing it does not have that my Pathfinders do, is the compass feature... but I honestly never use the compass built into the watch.   I did not find the instructions very helpful. It appeared to have a digital compass which it did not. Guess I should of read the description better. The clip does not fold neatly against the back of the display making it difficult to store in your pocket. The temperature is measured only in Celsius. The display is hard to read.   There's a lot that I liked about this item. It displays either barometric pressure or altitude together with temp, humidity, and time all simultaneously; some digital altimeters show only one or two functions at a time, and require pushing a button multiple times to see all functions. The carabiner clip makes it easy to carry by clipping onto a belt loop, backpack, or wherever. However, it has some definite disadvantages compared to most other, albeit more expensive, altimeters. Most currently available digital altimeters process barometric pressure readings so that they distinguish between slow changes, which (generally) are due to normal variations in ambient barometric pressure, and more rapid changes which are normally due to changes in altitude; this device lacks this capability, with the result that over the course of several hours the altitude reading can vary over a range of up to 100 ft. or so just sitting on my desk at home.   Not for serious outdoor use

  This seemed like a promising item but I started to wonder when I noticed it had a rotating bezel with compass heading on it (it doesn't have a compass feature so this is basically a useless decoration). The unit worked for a week but when I took it on a glacier climbing trip it conked out during the night. The temps didn't quite get to freezing.   Received this item yesterday. At first I was very pleased and it seems to work exactly as advertised. However in reading through the manual it indicates you cannot get this wet, it suggest even avoiding rain. I specifically got this to take out fishing, and purchased this based on the fact that the product title indicates it is waterproof, but i realize after reading back through the detailed product description it does not mention it being waterproof at all.   good watch for the humble price

  All declared functions (barometer, altimeter, termometer, alarms) work good. But you must understand how altimeter works: even on the table altimeter can show different altitude if atmospheric pressure changes. Calibrate it every time pressure changes to get proper altitude measurment.I'm not sure if the window is mineral - it can be easily scratched like plastic.Other disadvantage is bad viewing angles of the screen: even right angle is not OK, it is better to look at the sreen angularly.Rather big watch - be aware!I like this watch - low-cost but functional.   ok, not great

  The thermometer takes a long time to equilibrate. It's pretty useless since to get a good reading you have to take it off and wait 15 minutes for it to read true ambient temp. You have to calibrate the altimeter every time you use it since it works on atmospheric pressure and pressure changes daily. Even with calibrating before a hike it still never gives me the same elevation at the end of the hike that i set at the beginning of the hike.   Superb deal for an altimeter-barometer watch

  Great watch so far

  I got this watch mainly for the barometer. It has been fairly accurate in readings, and even more so in predicting weather changes. Yes the screen can be hard to read sometimes even at its highest setting and the light is of little use unless it is absolutely dark. The temperature readings seem to be accurate as well, but not something I care to much about or trust when I am wearing the watch. I have not tested to see if this watch is waterproof because it has four little holes on the underside and doesnt look like a good idea to place under water. Im not saying that it cant go underwater, I just dont have a direct need to find out if it is waterproof.It is a little bigger than the watch I had before (A cheap casio) and is the biggest watch I have ever worn, but it's of a comfortable size for me (6'2, 200lbs). The band seems strong and has 2 strap slips for the excess. The compass works great to and points in the same direction as the iPhone 4S.
